THREATENED LIVING CULTURES

The preservation of nature, which should continue to make the lives of indigenous peoples possible, is particularly close to our hearts.

If we all want to survive, the survival of the indigenous population and the preservation of the Amazon region is an indispensable prerequisite. After more than 20 museums have burnt down in Brazil in recent years, we are particularly concerned to support the preservation and maintenance of the endangered indigenous cultures of this country. With this exhibition, we want to make an honest contribution to this.

"The NEKREI exhibition on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the company RHEINNADEL GmbH on the company premises should also be a call to harmonise fauna, flora, climate and environment with social corporate responsibility in a sustainable way for the benefit of our planet and all living beings."

„NEKREI“
in the Kayapo language of central Brazil means "privilege". For the Kayapo, a person is given a certain number of ornaments, usually inherited from their parents. Only they have the "privilege" of wearing them. The 150 pieces presented in this exhibition, which make up a unique collection from the Amazon region of Brazil, offer an insight into a culture that is still very dynamic.

AMAZONIA IN DANGER
The Amazon River runs through the rainforest for more than 6,990 kilometres and flows into the Atlantic Ocean on the east coast of Brazil. The indigenous peoples of the Amazon live here in harmony with nature. They have adapted their way of life to the jungle for thousands of years. They only take from nature what they need to live/survive - this should also be an example to us.

PERMANENT EXHIBITION
in the "Needle Factory"

The needle factory was acquired years ago by the entrepreneur Herbert Pavel and was the headquarter of the group of companies.

The administrative building was later sold to the city of Aachen and is today, among other things, the cultural center of the city. Insofar, the exhibition found an adequate place here.

Honorary Consul Klaus Pavel founded the association Nekrei e.V. in 2019. The permanent exhibition "NEKREI " was opened in September 2023 on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the company Rheinnadel GmbH in the "needle factory" - the nucleus of the company - with the aim, among others, of continuously drawing attention to the climate-damaging deforestation of the primeval forest and the poisoning of the rivers of Amazoni

125 Years Rheinnadel & 50 Years RNA

As in 1998, when the company celebrated its 100th anniversary with a similar exhibition in the Ludwig Forum in Aachen, the Rheinnadel company celebrated its 125th anniversary again with an exhibition in 2023.

Since the Pavel family lived in Brazil for a long time and Herbert Pavel was first active there in a leading position with the family business Matarazzo, there has been an intensive connection to Brazil ever since. With its uniquely beautiful objects, the exhibition is also intended to draw attention to the threatening living situation of the indigenous peoples who, despite their constitutionally enshrined rights, fight daily on the ground at the risk of their lives to preserve their habitat. Their habitat with its unimaginably large primeval forest areas and its countless rivers also provides for our climate and thus for our survival. It is therefore not only an exhibition that shows the beauty of the indigenous culture of Amazonia, but essentially also awakens the awareness of each individual for the fragility of our ecosystem and its climate.

HERE YOU FIND US

"NEKREI" is located on the second floor of the "Nadelfabrik" - in the rooms of the Brazilian Honorary Consulate at Reichsweg 30, in 52068 Aachen.

FOR BIG AND SMALL

The topics of the exhibition offer a particularly good introduction to the time-critical issues relating to indigenous people and their life in Brazil. The preservation of nature and the elementary building blocks that make life of the Indians further possible is particularly important to us.
